The Journey DRT is coordinating the local response effort in Kenosha, Racine and Walworth counties for the incoming Afghan community members to Wisconsin

We Need Your Help!

The Journey DRT is working together, under the direction of the Wisconsin Emergency Management and Department of Military Affairs in Madison, to gather supplies and prepare logistical support to the incoming Afghan community guests.

Thanks to everyone who came out to help us at our first sorting event for the donations collected at our Donation Collection Centers! We have more sorting to do and will be collection more donations from bins this week, so please make sure to join us again next weekend!

Please join us for our first Afghan Community Response – Donation Sorting Event!

Saturday, October 2nd, 2021 from 1P-2:30P we will be at our Silver Lake Bunker location (the old Silver Lake Rescue Squad building on Lake Street) and the mission is to sort, palletize and inventory our most recent donations gathered from our various Donation Collection Centers!

Walworth County Sheriff Department Donation Collection Center is now open!

We are also going to work together with Team Rubicon in Racine on Saturday the 18th sorting donations at the Workforce Solutions Center

We have more donation collection centers open! Thanks to First United Methodist Church Kenosha and The Kenosha Public Library for graciously donating space to place our donation bins.

Also, thank you to the Mt. Pleasant Village hall and Kunes GMC in Elkhorn for assisting us by hosting donation collection centers as well!

We have received updated instruction to ONLY collect NEW CLOTHING for our Afghan Community guests.

 

PRIORITY 1:  -NEW- MODEST STYLE CLOTHING AND SHOES

Bulk items are acceptable, but they must be unbranded and culturally appropriate clothing.

Men’s: unbranded, modest clothing such as – shirts, pants, socks, undergarments in sizes S-XXL

Women’s: unbranded, modest clothing such as – long-sleeved crew neck tops, long pants, socks, undergarments in sizes S-XXL

Children’s: gender appropriate and mirror adult versions in all age ranges and sizes

Shoes:  NEW shoes, especially flip flops, will be accepted as well.

note: We will not need sizes above XXL

We have confirmed a few more Donation Collection Centers and are working with a few other partners around the tri-county area to add an additional few sites.

  • Please see: updated priority added to the supplies list. The base is requesting we prioritize NEW culturally appropriate clothing for now. Please follow the recommendations below.

 

  • There is a new box being set up today at Hope City Church in Racine! It should be operational soon.

 

  • We are going to send out a communication shortly asking for help with transporting and setting up a few more gaylord bins at our partner locations. In the meantime, if anyone has a truck/large SUV and the ability to transport a gaylord bin from our warehouse in Bristol to a partner location in Racine, Kenosha or Walworth county in the next week, please contact us!!
